Bullying Statistics: Effects of Bullying

Bullying Statistics

“Being bullied is not just an unpleasant rite of passage through childhood,” said Duane Alexander, M.D., director of the NICHD. “It’s a public health problem that merits attention. People who were bullied as children are more likely to suffer from depression and low self esteem, well into adulthood, and the bullies themselves are more likely to engage in criminal behavior later in life.”

Among students, homicide perpetrators were more than twice as likely as homicide victims to have been bullied by peers.

Bullying statistics say revenge is the strongest motivation for school shootings

87% of students said shootings are motivated by a desire to “get back at those who have hurt them.”

86% of students said, “other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them” causes teenagers to turn to lethal violence in the schools.

Bullying statistics shows that those who bully and are bullied appear to be at greatest risk of experiencing the following: loneliness; trouble making friends; lack of success in school; and involvement in problem behaviors such as smoking and drinking.

61% said students shoot others because they have been victims of physical abuse at home.

54% said witnessing physical abuse at home can lead to violence in school.

According to bullying statistics , one out of every 10 students who drops out of school does so because of repeated bullying.

Harassment and bullying have been linked to 75 percent of school-shooting incidents.

Hi, I just found your blog about bullying. I am really impressed. I suffered from bullying as a child and am now only just coming to terms with it. I have suffered from severe panic attacks and anxiety disorder as a consequence.

I have recently started my own blog about the subject. My aim is for it to highlight the dangers of bulling and to offer help and resources on the subject.

My blog is quite new and I am no expert as you can tell. Are you in America ? I am in the Uk.

Perhaps we can help each other in some way or link up somehow ?

Paul.

This is an amazing post. It's just horrible how many kids suffer though this everyday. Thank you for supplying these facts. Hopefully people will be open to the bullying going on in our schools across America.

bullying is wrong but these kids that are getting bullied just need to not give the bullies the reaction they want to see and there are not bullies when your in the 2nd grade haha. And these new bullying programs just piss off the students and are an epic fail so they should probably stop. this is a 2 sided affair its not just bullies here

I currently reside in Pennsylvania and it was startling to see that we are ranked 4th among the worse states for bullying. I am not sure what state you live in but if you are interested I am starting an organization that reaches out to children and young adults how are victims of bullying. If you would like to get involved please let me know and I can pass on some more information to you.

I am very impressed. Bullying is very sad. When I was a junior high school student, there was bullying at hand. I can not do anything. I can not find solutions. Are not there any solutions? We can help each other in some way. Please let me know if there is anything we can do about bullying. Thanks.

Children should feel safe at school. NO bullying should be allowed whatsoever, period. I am 50 years old, and I have Avoidance Personality Disorder from suffering, not only serious abuse at home (from adult bullies), but also from going to school in California. As such, I have no children, I am not married, and I live in an all caucasian neighborhood. I am probably prejudiced from early experiences, this is true, but I didn't start out that way - it was taught to me by the violent experiences I had and saw.

Bullying has gone on forever. How do you propose to end it?
Homeschooling might appear to be an answer but eventually kids become young adults and venture out into the world. What happens when they have to deal with less-than-friendly co-workers and bad-tempered bosses?
School shootings wouldn't occur if it weren't so easy for kids to get ahold of guns. The bigger issue is gun control but our schizo society refuses to confront the fact that our love affair with firearms is inherently insane. No other civilized nation allows private citizens to walk away from gun shows with an arsenal of automatic weapons.
